In addition to criminal matters, I have successfully pursued a variety of civil litigation matters in Hawai`i, New Jersey and New York, involving complex insurance litigation, commercial and business disputes, and family law matters. I also provide pro bono legal assistance to the clients of Volunteer Legal Services Hawai`i.

I began practicing law in New York, where I graduated from New York Law School in 1987. After an appellate clerkship, I practiced law in the litigation group at Lowenstein Sandler. There I represented individual and corporate clients in business and commercial litigation, including environmental insurance coverage disputes. I also practiced with Ross & Hardies (now known as McGuire Woods) where I represented financial institutions and other clients in commercial litigation, bankruptcy proceedings and appeals.

In addition to my legal practice, I have held the position of adjunct faculty at Hawai`i Pacific University and University of Hawai`i Maui College in the areas of business law, criminal procedure, criminal law and U.S. constitutional history.

I am licensed to practice law in the states of Hawai`i, New York and New Jersey; and in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second, Third and Ninth Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, for New Jersey and for Hawai'i.

Legal memberships and fellowships include: Hawai‘i State Bar Association; American Bar Association; Board of Directors, Native Hawaiian Bar Association; Criminal Justice Act Panel, U.S. District Court Hawai‘i and Southern California; Volunteer Legal Services of Hawai`i; American Bar Foundation.
